What to take away
- Ad automation is only worth paying for once ad spend is large enough for bidding decisions to matter.
- Organic research and paid campaign management answer different questions and should be judged with separate evidence.
- Back My Side handles the organic iOS research half; it does not manage or report on Apple Ads.
What this alternatives list does and does not establish
This is a publisher-authored alternatives list from Back My Side, not an independent ranking. We reviewed MobileAction's public homepage on 9 September 2026 and compared its stated capabilities with our own workflow and with other vendors' homepages reviewed the same day. We did not purchase every plan, run a controlled accuracy test or measure install outcomes. Feature descriptions are vendor-published claims, and we quote no third-party prices because they change without notice.
MobileAction's homepage cites large brand customers and vertical solutions for gaming, shopping, finance, travel and more. That positioning suits teams with ad budgets and dedicated growth roles. The most common reason to look for an alternative is that a developer wants organic listing research and has no campaign to automate.
What MobileAction advertises, and which half you actually need
As reviewed, MobileAction advertises ASO intelligence to grow organic installs through keyword optimization, an Apple Ads product to manage, automate and optimize campaigns with predictive bidding, ad intelligence for creative best practices by category, AI keyword planning and review-reply automation, plus managed services and an API. It covers the App Store and Google Play and does not show prices or trial terms on the homepage.
Decide whether you need the paid half. Apple Ads automation earns its cost when bids, keyword expansion and creative rotation are decisions you make weekly. If your campaigns are small or nonexistent, the value collapses to the organic research features, which several narrower tools provide. Keep the two halves separate in your evaluation so a strong ads feature does not excuse weak research, or the reverse.

MobileAction alternatives by organic and paid scope
The table separates organic research from paid campaign work so you can see which alternatives cover both and which cover one. Claims are homepage descriptions from the vendors, reviewed on the same day.
For the paid column, remember that Apple's own Ads interface is the primary source for campaign performance, and that Apple's analytics can include Apple Ads acquisition inside search-source reporting. Any third-party ads tool sits on top of that data, not beside it.
| Tool | Organic App Store research | Paid Apple Ads work |
|---|---|---|
| Back My Side | Public iOS listing reports, keyword explorer and daily sampled tracker | None; campaigns stay in Apple's tools |
| AppTweak | ASO intelligence for App Store and Google Play | Advertises an Apple Search Ads campaign manager |
| App Radar | Keyword research and rank tracking for both stores | No ads management on the homepage we reviewed |
| Appfigures | ASO keyword tools plus your own store analytics | No ads management on the homepage we reviewed |
| Sensor Tower | Keyword rankings within enterprise market intelligence | Advertises advertising insights across networks, not campaign management |
When Back My Side is a reasonable MobileAction alternative
Choose Back My Side when the question is organic and iOS: what the listing promises, which phrases return which competitors in a given storefront, which competitor terms your metadata misses and how sampled positions move after each release. The first report is free without sign-in. Tracking, saved apps and CSV export depend on sign-in and plan, and the pricing page holds current limits.
Read Back My Side within its limits. Positions are samples from Apple's public search responses containing up to 200 results, not official or personalized on-device ranks. Popularity, difficulty and opportunity are heuristics, not search-volume counts or download forecasts. It covers the iOS and iPadOS App Store only, has no Google Play data, does not read App Store Connect analytics, does not manage Apple Ads campaigns and does not publish metadata for you. Campaign reporting, bid management and attribution belong in Apple's Ads and App Store Connect tools, or in a dedicated ads product if spend justifies it.
How to evaluate a MobileAction alternative in one week
Evaluate any alternative with one real app and a fixed list of ten to fifteen queries you already care about. Record how each tool defines a position, which storefront it samples, how often it collects and what it shows when an app is absent from the sample. Two tools can report different numbers for the same query on the same day without either being wrong, because the measurement differs.
Then check the parts that usually decide the purchase: the number of apps and keywords the plan allows, whether exports are included, whether Google Play or Apple Ads are required for your roadmap, and whether a trial converts to a charge automatically. Write the decision down with a review date so a cheaper tool is not judged for lacking a feature you never planned to use.
Frequently asked questions
Can Back My Side manage my Apple Ads campaigns?
No. Back My Side has no Apple Ads integration. It researches public iOS listings and tracks sampled keyword positions. Manage campaigns in Apple's Ads interface or in a tool such as MobileAction or AppTweak that advertises campaign management.
If I stop paying for ad automation, will my organic rankings fall?
Nothing in Apple's public documentation ties organic ranking to buying ads, and no alternative can promise the reverse either. Judge organic positions with comparable samples over time and judge campaigns with Apple's own reporting, keeping the two separate.
